A
Wedding and Flower Festival was held in the church on the weekend
of June 5th & 6th 2004. Below are photographs showing some of
the beautiful dresses displayed.
It
is understood that in these times wedding dresses were often used
afterwards for 'Sunday best'. The photgraph shows the dress from the
1840s or 1850s.
War
was declared on the Sunday some three weeks before the day the banns
were read in 1939. The reception was to have been at the village hall
but this was requisitioned for the war effort. At very short notice
the tea rooms were used instead.
The
Bride and all the guests walked to the church from her house in Ravenstone
main street. The gown dates from 1985.
These
dresses were worn by grandmother, mother and daughter in 1940, 1971
and 1998 respectively, each of the latter two was designed by the
bride.
This
dress was worn in both 1949 and 1962 and was flown from America specially
for the Festival.
This
gown is made of silk and dates from the late 19th Century, a few
of the dates when it has been worn are 1900, 1904, 1912, 1929, 1934,
1939, 1952, 1954, 1957, 1959, 1962, and 1966.
